Major in Applied Physics(070202H)

The major traces its origin back to the Technical Physics Program under the Department of Optical‑Physical Sciences when Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics was founded in 1958. Academicians Wang Daheng and Xue Mingqiu once taught here, and outstanding alumni including Academician Yang Xiongli were cultivated. Renamed the Major in Applied Physics in 1986, it ranks among the founding programs featuring optoelectronics of the university. Through more than 60 years of accumulation and innovation, integrating modern nanophysics and information technologies, it has evolved into a modern‑day Applied Physics major with prominent optoelectronic characteristics, and is now a National First‑Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site.

Supported by the first‑level discipline authorizing Doctor of Physics degrees, the major occupies a core foundational position within the university’s optoelectronic‑featured discipline system. It is equipped with innovation‑entrepreneurship practical platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of High‑Power Semiconductor Lasers. It boasts distinctive strengths where high‑level disciplines, top‑tier scientific research and high‑quality innovation‑entrepreneurship education jointly underpin undergraduate teaching.

The major enrolls 85 students annually under the “4+0” training model, with all studies completed at Changchun University of Science and Technology. Teaching is jointly delivered by Chinese and Russian sides. Courses undertaken by Chinese faculty are taught in Chinese and English, while courses undertaken by Russian faculty are fully delivered in English. Students who meet the degree‑award requirements of both universities will obtain an undergraduate graduation certificate and Bachelor of Science degree certificate from Changchun University of Science and Technology, as well as the bachelor’s academic and degree certificates from ITMO University of Russia. The graduation and degree certificates issued by the two universities are identical to those awarded to regular students of the same major at each respective institution.

The major aims to foster high‑quality, innovative and senior‑level specialized talents who meet the demands of modern‑national construction and future social‑technological development, achieve all‑round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor education, and possess solid mathematical‑physical foundations, systematic professional knowledge, broad global vision and devotion to the motherland. Graduates are competent for scientific research, technological development and related work in physics and relevant fields, especially in optical‑physics and nanotechnology, optical‑information and quantum‑information sectors.
